Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 Sermon Reflection Guide

DOWNLOAD: Reflection Guide Ecc 5:1-7

Does your soul feel like this?

I must confess that recently mine does.  When I look back over the last several months, I’ve slowly let some ordinary things (like work, comfort, food, coffee, and entertainment) become too prominent in my interests and I’ve felt empty and dry, like this river bed that used to be flowing with water.  My heart was stirred this week as we worked through Solomon’s repentance and he considered again how he should “guard his steps as he approaches the house of God”.  Like Solomon, I too have been fearing and revering other things besides God.  As this has happened, selfish ambition or “dreams” have become a driving force. (see 5:7a)

Yet, it an ironic way it was refreshing to see what’s causing my drought and in the same moment to have my heart’s desired directed toward the Lord: but God is the one you must fear. (see 5:7b)

As we listen, read, and reflect this week, may God grant us repentance that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. (Acts 3:19-21)
