Another great way to experience who we are and connect with the church is to jump in and give some of your time to help serve the church. There can be many motives for serving: because we see a need, because we feel guilty, because it makes us a feel better about ourselves. However, Scripture leads us to serve for a different reason — because God served us in Jesus. Jesus said that He came not be served, but to serve (Mark 10.42-45). This service culminated in offering His life for our sin. Seeing the poverty of our souls, Jesus becomes poor, so we might become rich. Our motive for service is not to work off a guilty conscience or to use as a crutch to feel righteous and acceptable. Instead, our service is driven by our gratitude for grace. The grace of God drives us to radical acts of love and service that guilt and fear never will.
Why we serve has everything to do with the way we serve. Grace helps us to appreciate our gifts and talents, but also accept our God-given limits. This enables us to appreciate our need for others in the community (1 Corinthians 12). At Redemption Hill, we believe that everyone is necessary. Only when the entire community is appreciated and employed in serving will we mature into the body of Christ (Ephesians 4).
Ministry Teams are a great way to get to know people. If you are new or have been coming around for a while and have not found the right place to connect, one of these opportunities may be the perfect way.
Sunday Setup/Greeting Team: Place signs, equipment, tables, children’s toys, etc. around the school in designated locations for our Sunday service. This team also picks up the coffee and communion bread and serves as the greeting team as people begin to arrive. After the service, they put everything back into our on-site storage and make sure the school is as we found it. It’s not glamorous; but certainly indispensable. Our community groups rotate this responsibility; more hands are always welcome. If you have not connected with a group but would like to help while meeting new people, arrive at Holton any Sunday morning at 8:15 (trust us, they’ll be thrilled to see you!)

Sound Team: Our Sound Team members work with our sound system to amplify the service, mix the worship, and record the sermon. It may be the 21st century, but this stuff still takes manpower to operate. Training will be provided, but prior experience is helpful.

Worship Team: Each week, one of the ways that we give voice and expression to our desire to bring God glory is through music. If you play an instrument or carry a tune please let us know. We are always building a collection of people who will lead us in this aspect of our corporate expression.

Artistry Team: God is the ultimate artist with the most stunning aesthetic sense. He has gifted many with the abilities to reflect His artistry. What we produce, be it a web site, bulletin, or poster, should reflect a pursuit of a creative and appropriate aesthetic. If you are a designer, illustrator, painter, programmer, photographer, writer, or any other type of artist… let us know. We want to pool our artistic resources to give beauty and originality to the exterior faces of Redemption Hill.
