I was baptized as a baby, and have always felt the Lord’s presence in my life. There was a significant moment, however, my freshman year in high school, when Jesus spoke to my heart in a new, all-in way during a sermon, leading me to turn my life towards him. Since then, He has continued to impact my life through his steadfast love and faithfulness.
These past few years though, I started to feel a leading to be baptized as a believer, since I was not encouraged to do so initially as a freshman. So with the encouragement from my Community Leader Jake, my husband Matt and I dug into scripture together. It was then that my eyes were open to the call to believe and be baptized, as Jesus commands, and was able to experience the beautiful demonstration of Jesus’ burial and resurrection as Jake and Matt baptized me in the James River.
I am thankful for God’s faithfulness towards me, for his son Jesus saving me, and for the Holy Spirit leading me to where I am now. And even with its delayed awkwardness, it was a joy and blessing to testify to Jesus’ work on my behalf, and follow him in obedience with baptism, surrounded by my friends in the Lakeside Community.
