Kids Lesson Review – John 2:13-25 – Jesus Cleanses the Temple

Parents,

Here are some review notes from this week’s lesson in our preschool and K-4 classes. This week we studied John 2:13-25, Jesus Cleanses the Temple.

This is lesson 8 of 78 in our study of the New Testament. This lesson corresponds with Story 86 in The Gospel Story Bible and with Week 8 of the Old Story New family devotional.

Gospel Truth for Today

In our story Jesus tells the people that if they destroy this temple that he would rebuild it in three days (John 2:22). Only after his resurrection did people understand that he was referring to his death and resurrection in our place, for our sins, proving that Jesus is lord over all things, even life and death.

The Lesson In A Sentence

Jesus drove out the shopkeepers and moneychangers from the temple because the people had forgotten that the temple was for worship alone.

Questions For Your Kids

Parents, we have provided some basic answers to the questions so that when your child inevitably says, “I don’t remember,” you can feed them some clues and help them recount the lesson.

What happened in your story today?

Jesus was angry that people had made the temple a place to just make money. So, Jesus flipped over tables and drove out the merchants and money changes.

Jesus said that if they tore down the temple, he could rebuild it in three days. How could he do that?

He wasn’t talking about building the physical temple. He was referring to his resurrection three days after his death on the cross for our sins.
