Riches Part III: The Scapegoat
Written by reachthesky · August 2, 2009
Psalm 103:10-12
He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth. so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us.
Reflection Points
- The work is done, God’s wrath has been exhausted (propitiation) and your sins have been removed (expiation). The question that remains is whether or not you will believe it? Will you appreciate it for your day to day acceptance with God?
- Do you grasp with your heart and mind what the message of the “scapegoat” says to you?
- Do you believe that Jesus really has carried away your sins and that God has removed them as far as the east is from the west?
- When you think about God “hurling” your sins into the sea, do you rejoice?
- Do you see in all of this that the gospel is infinitely larger and greater than your sin?

Wow, I have never got a clearer understanding of propitiation and expiation. Does it inspire gratitude in my heart? Yes. I think I was in shock that Jesus has done so much for me in that way, that I didn’t know how to react. Actually,I wanted to get on my knees and thank God, but we don’t do that at the Hill, so I didn’t.
I really appreciate Robert the way you broke the concept down for us, gave us concrete explanations and with passion helped us see the reality of what was really happening and how it should make a difference in our lives.
I also appreciate the time you are taking to make sure where to find the bible text you are preaching from, review of the previous week sermon and intro into the topic of the sermon. Thanks for making the sacrifice.
I also appreciate that the pastors of RH want the members to be mature in Christ in relationship and the Bible.
Yea!
