Songmaking | Tradition and Innovation in Music for the Church

Join us Saturday morning, November 9th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at The Fourhundred, for a collaborative workshop focusing on the way “solid” practices, objects, and relationships impact the music we write and play in and for worship. How do we balance reverence for the riches of the historic church, with faithful presence (and even improvisation) in our contemporary settings? Led by Jake Armerding and Kevin Gosa as part of their Make RVA residency, the workshop will feature both conversation and masterclass-style work on songs and music brought in and played by participants, as well as songs written and played by Jake and Kevin. Join us as we explore the supra-cultural and global aspects of the Body, to find out what church might “sound” like in Richmond, Virginia. It is free and open to the public, and coffee and refreshments will be served. RSVP at the Facebook event page here.
