Series: Context vs. Conjecture
Not many people would want to live in a world of conjecture, where they based their lives on unstable half-truths and man-made promises that often harm them and others. Yet, that is exactly what can happen to us when we take God’s words out of their biblical contexts. However, when we keep the content in its context, we have an even greater opportunity to experience joy in our relationships with God and others.
Reflection Points
Here are some of the passages that we will consider in Context vs. Conjecture:

Raymond,
Awesome preaching yesterday. If I wasn’t so much of an introvert, I would have said a few amens out loud instead of whispering them. First of all, being the visual, linear learner that I am, I loved the intro into the topic and the outline of the message. You did a great job of telling people where to find the scripture text and explaining the background or context of the verses. So many times, preachers or teachers assume people know where to find the book of the Bible or don’t give them time to find the verse.
My main agreement is that yes, we in the church and also false teachers do take scripture out of context and fail to accurately understand and interpret the Bible. However, despite a plethora of bible study helps available, Christians are not trained to know how to read and understand the Bible correctly or accurately. We read it through our own personal viewpoints and biases, we read it through our favorite pastor or teacher’s doctrine, we don’t read it without our preconceived notions, opinions and motives. Most of us are not trained to know the fundamental skills of observing, interpreting and making accurate interpretation of the scriptures.
In these later times, as Paul told Timothy( I Tim 4:3) error will be in and outside the church and many Christians will not be able to discern the truth. Examining the Word of God in context as well as being able to discern the error and motives of our own hearts is important, if we are to be a biblically literate people called to be living the gospel in and by the Spirit and in the Truth.
