The Times They Are A-Changin’

If you were were at our Sunday gathering this last week, or watched our weekly video update, then you are already aware of the great news. Starting September 11, we will have TWO service times: 9:00am and 11:00am.

Along with our request for you to volunteer to serve on one of our Sunday morning teams (we need your help!), we wanted to share with you some of the reasons we’re starting a second service. We believe that moving to two services is driven by the same three things that help guide everything we do at Redemption Hill. It is Gospel Centered, Grace Driven, and Mission Minded.

Gospel Centered

The scriptures continually remind us that Jesus is in charge of building His church, not us. Verses like Psalm 127:1, Matthew 16:18, and 1 Cor 12:18 keep us in check from pride, self-dependence, and seeking our own fame and glory. In the past three years the Lord has chosen to grow Redemption Hill to such a degree that we are running out of seats on Sunday mornings. We recognize that this is not of our own doing, but the pure mercy and grace of God to use the people of Redemption Hill to impact Richmond VA with the power of the Gospel. Launching a second service is not about trying to be a big church, look cool, and make a name for Redemption Hill. Launching a second service is primarily about the gospel and making much of Jesus.

Grace Driven

1 Corinthians 15:10 – But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

By God’s grace, Redemption Hill is growing numerically. We acknowledge that this is a mercifully kind work that find’s its source in God alone. Like Paul, we seek to ensure that His grace towards us is not in vain, but that we work hard (not us, but the grace of God that is with us) to honor Him. We believe that launching a second service is something that is driven by God’s grace.

Mission Minded

While not exactly part of the Bible Belt, the culture of Richmond and Virginia still lends itself to our Sunday morning gathering as an evangelistic opportunity. Every week, more and more people enter our gathering who haven’t experienced the gift of life found only in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Moving to two services doubles the opportunities available on Sunday morning for those who are far from God to come and hear the only message able to save their soul. This move will open nearly 400 additional seats for people (your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family) to come and hear the good news. We are a church on mission and the move to two services is just one more way that this mission gets lived out.

Conclusion

We are excited about launching a second service! God is at work in people’s lives and he is graciously using you, me, and all of Redemption Hill. Adding a second service is a gospel centered, grace driven, and mission minded decision that we hope, pray, and believe will result in more people being transformed into the image of Christ.

As a church, please pray that God will use this new service to make much of Jesus and change lives, as well as consider where you can volunteer to serve in this great missional adventure.

For from Him, through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. (Romans 11:36)
