Endless Compassion

Working in health care during the pandemic seems similar to what the culture as a whole is experiencing – every week feels like a year in terms of new developments in how we’re approaching patient care, and uncertainty is the new norm. I’m convinced there are actually two pandemics going on – COVID19 is getting all the news but the pandemic of anxiety is just as rampant. From a primary care perspective, it’s been challenging to hear patients’ legitimate worries related to employment and finances and sickness while also supporting them in their more chronic medical needs…we’re operating on a very basic level, trying to prevent emergency department visits and and keep people safe while they stay confined to their homes. I’m thankful for telehealth and the huge strides we’ve made in a short time to allow patients to access medical care from their homes. And it’s so good to be a believer and know that God has already written this story and that his hand is ever present in each person’s life. My prayer is that my compassion toward others, particularly in this time of upheaval, would reflect the endless compassion that the Lord extends to me.
