His Purpose and Grace

As I grew up, I did not know who Jesus was, how to pray, or why people went to church on Sundays. I found my identity in what I was doing. I was a gymnast, student, and sister. I also found my identity through my relationships. This was a slippery slope because I tended to find broken people and try to mend them together with my own two hands. This left me hurting, failing, and alone. In high school my friends brought me to a youth ministry, and that is when I heard the Gospel for the first time. God was planting seeds for further down the road. In college I found myself feeling alone and lost. At that time, God surrounded me with a wonderful group of friends. One of those friends asked me, “What is your purpose in life?” At the moment I came up with some transient answer, but for the first time I realized I did not have one. This was a turning point. God peaked my curiosity, which lead me to go to church, get involved with a small group, and ultimately trust in the Gospel I learned about in high school. Today, I live for my perfect Father who chased after me when I did not deserve it. As Scripture says, “He has saved us and called us to a holy life — not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace” (2 Timothy 1:9). He is my foundation. Though I still have struggles in my life, God took away all condemnation. He fills me with love so I can love those same people who used to shake my identity. As I prepared to be baptized today, I read Acts 22:16, which says, “and now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.” So here I am, happy and excited to bury my old life and rise into a new life with Jesus.
