Kids Lesson Review – Luke 2:22-52 – Jesus Presented in the Temple

Parents,

Here are some review notes from this week’s lesson in our preschool and K-4 classes. This week we studied Luke 2:22-52, Jesus Presented in the Temple.

This is lesson 3 of 78 in our study of the New Testament. This lesson corresponds with Story 81 in The Gospel Story Bible and with Week 3 of the Old Story New family devotional.

Gospel Truth for Today

Jesus was born to save all people from their sins.
Simeon’s prophetic prayer in Luke 2:30-32.

The Lesson In A Sentence

Today we talked about Jesus being presented by his parents in the temple, according to the law, and the unique responses of Simeon and Anna.

Questions For Your Kids

Parents, we have provided some basic answers to the questions so that when your child inevitably says, “I don’t remember,” you can feed them some clues and help them recount the lesson.

Who were some of the people you learned about in class today (what did they do?)

Mary & Joseph – Took Jesus to the Temple, according to God’s law. Jews visited Jerusalem yearly for Passover, according to the law.

Jesus – As a 12-year-old boy, he was accidentally left behind in Jerusalem. While there he was in the temple listening to and talking to the teachers. All were amazed at his understanding.

Simeon – Promised by God he wouldn’t die until he saw the Messiah. Upon seeing Jesus, he rejoiced and blessed God, announcing the “Gospel Truth” noted at the top of this sheet.

Anna – Widow who lived in the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer day and night. Upon seeing Jesus she began to speak of him to everyone who was waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Why was it important for Mary & Joseph to follow God’s commands?

To be our substitute, Jesus had to follow God’s good commands perfectly (because we don’t). So, from his earlier age, Jesus lived in perfect obedience to God’s commands, like being taken to temple according to God’s law and observing Passover in Jerusalem.

Why were people always so excited when they saw Jesus as a baby/child?

Simeon and Anna were so excited because God showed them that Jesus was the savior of the world they had been waiting for.
