Lesson Review – 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 – The Body of Christ

Parents,

Here are some review notes from this week’s lesson in our preschool and K-4 classes. This week we studied 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 – The Body of Christ

This is lesson 53 of 78 in our study of the New Testament. This lesson corresponds with Story 131 in The Gospel Story Bible and with Week 53 of the Old Story New family devotional.

Gospel Truth for Today

As believers we are baptized into Christ’s body and are to use our unique gifts, both natural and spiritual, for the strengthening of the body and the advancement of the gospel.

The Lesson In A Sentence (or Two)

The church in Corinth had a lot of problem. Paul encouraged them that they were all part of one body (Christ’s) and that everyone had a part to play, just like in a natural body.

Questions for Discussion

What did today’s story teach us?

Christians are members of Christ’s body. We all need each other because we have each been given different gifts.

What are some of the gifts God gave the Corinthians?

Some were apostles, some prophets, some teachers, some performed miracles, some were healers, some were helpers, some administrators, some spoke in tongues [1 Corinthians 12:27–28]

What do we all have in common?

We all share in the Holy Spirit no matter what our gifts are.

What are some gifts that you think you have been given and how could they be used in the church?

Accept any answer. Use this as a time to encourage your children with gifts that you have seen evident in their lives and how they might be a blessing to Jesus’ church.

Praying together

Take time to pray thank God for “the body of Christ,” his church and that he has placed you and your child in his church. Ask that God would use your gifts to glorify his name.
