Lesson Review – John 12:10-50 – Triumphal Entry

Parents,

Here are some review notes from this week’s lesson in our preschool and K-4 classes. This week we studied John 12:10-50 – Triumphal Entry.

This is lesson 30 of 78 in our study of the New Testament. This lesson corresponds with Story 108 in The Gospel Story Bible and with Week 30 of the Old Story New family devotional.

Gospel Truth for Today

The people wanted an earthly king to save them from Rome, but Jesus is the heavenly king sent to save us from our sins.

The Lesson In A Sentence

Jesus is celebrated by the people as he enters Jerusalem, while the religious leaders plot this death.

Questions For You Kids

Why were the people so excited to see Jesus come into Jerusalem?

The people had heard about the great wonder of Lazarus being raised from the dead and were probably hoping Jesus would do greater wonders. Some may have wanted to make him king hoping he would overthrow their Roman rulers.

Why was Jesus really going to Jerusalem?

Jesus was coming to Jerusalem because he knew that it was time to fulfill the mission for which he came into the world. He would come and die on a cross (John 12:33) to save his people from their sins (John 12:47b – I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world).

What did the people do to pay honor to Jesus?

They laid palm branches and cloaks on the ground for him to walk on. They called him king and shouted “Hosanna!”

What did the Pharisees think of Jesus?

They were jealous of Jesus and all the attention he was receiving. They said, “Look, the world has gone after him.”

Some people felt happy when they saw Jesus and worship him. Other people were mad and jealous when they saw Jesus. How do you feel when you think about Jesus?

Accept any answer and use it as a springboard for discussion. You can share how you feel about and why as a way to encourage and connect with your child.

Praying Together

Take a moment to pray together. Thank God for sending Jesus to save us.
