Parents,
Here are some review notes from this week’s lesson in our preschool and K-4 classes. This week we studied Matthew 26:69-75 – Peter Denies Jesus.
This is lesson 37 of 78 in our study of the New Testament. This lesson corresponds with Story 115 in The Gospel Story Bible and with Week 37 of the Old Story New family devotional.
Gospel Truth for Today
The mockers called out for Jesus to save himself. Little did they realize that if Jesus has listened to their mocking, no one would be saved. But by dying on the cross, Jesus made it possible for even the mockers to be saved.
The Lesson In A Sentence (or Two)
Jesus hung on a cross between two criminals. One mocked him while the other asked Jesus for mercy.
Questions For You Kids
What were the people saying to Jesus on the cross?
The rulers and soldiers made fun of Jesus. They said that if he was God, he could get himself down from the cross.
What did Jesus say about the people who put him on the cross?
He said, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Who else was on a cross that day?
There were two robbers on crosses. One of them joined in mocking (making fun of) Jesus. The other asked for Jesus’ mercy.
How are we like the robbers?
We are all sinners, just like the robbers. If we trust in Jesus and turn from our sin, we are like the robber who repented. If we continue in our sin and do not trust Jesus, we are like the robber who mocked Jesus. Both robbers were guilty, only one went to be with Jesus in paradise.
Praying Together
Take time to pray with your child. Thank God for sending Jesus to die in our place and for our sin. Pray that you and your child would be like the robber who repented and trusted Jesus.
