Lesson Review – Luke 8:22-39 – Jesus Calms the Storm

Parents,

Here are some review notes from this week’s lesson in our preschool and K-4 classes. This week we studied Luke 8:22-39 – Jesus Calms the Storm.

This is lesson 20 of 78 in our study of the New Testament. This lesson corresponds with Story 98 in The Gospel Story Bible and with Week 20 of the Old Story New family devotional.

Gospel Truth for Today

Jesus slept because he was a man. Jesus calmed the storm because he was God. Because those things are true, his death and resurrection can save us from our sin.

The Lesson In A Sentence

Jesus saved the disciples from the storm and Jesus can save you.

Questions For You Kids

Parents – While our Preschool kids focused primarily on the “storm” in verse 22-25, our K-4th grade kids also studied verses 26-39 which includes the account of the possessed man whom Jesus freed.

Did Jesus save some people in today’s lesson?

Yes, he saved the disciples from a big storm. (K-4 can add: He also saved a man who was possessed and helped him have a right mind.)

Where was Jesus during the storm? (Why was he asleep?)

He was asleep. He was sleeping because he was a man and men get tired.

What did Jesus do about the storm? (How could he do that?)

He told it to be still and the storm stopped. He could calm the storm because he was God.

In the lesson, Jesus saved a lot of people, right? When we don’t obey God’s good commands, it is called sin. Sin makes us God’s enemies. Can Jesus save us from being God’s enemies?

Yes! Jesus obeyed all of God’s good commands. But, to save us, he took the punishment we deserve and gives us his perfect record so we can be right with God.

For K-4 What did Jesus tell the possessed man he saved to go and do?

The man was very happy and grateful. Jesus told him to go to his town and tell people all the wonderful things God had done for him. We should also tell people about the great things God has done for us!
