Lesson Review – Matthew 1:18-25 – God Speaks to Joseph in a Dream

Parents,

Here are some review notes from this week’s lesson in our preschool and K-4 classes. This week we studied Matthew 1:18-25 – God Speaks to Joseph in a Dream

This is lesson 2 of 4 in our Prepare Him Room advent series.

Gospel Truth for Today

When the angel told Joseph that Jesus would “save his people from their sins,” he was pointing forward to the cross. There is only one way that Jesus could save us from our sins. First, he would have to live a perfect life and never sin even once. Second, Jesus would need to be punished in our place, for our sins. That is what happened on the cross.

The Lesson In A Sentence (or Two)

An angel appear to Jospeh in a dream, assuring him that he should marry Mary. The baby would be the one foretold of long ago that would save God’s people from their sins and be Immanuel, God with us.

Questions for Discussion

1. What happened in today’s lesson?

An angel appeared to Joesph in a dream and told him it was ok to marry Mary, even though she was pregnant.

What special thing did the angel say that the baby would one day do?

Save people from their sins.

3. How can the baby do that?

The baby is Jesus. He would live the perfect life of love and obedience to God that we’re supposed to live and then die the death we’re supposed to die because we don’t love and obey God.

Do you remember what the name Immanuel means?

It means God with us.

Praying together

Take time to pray with your child, thanking God for sending His Son to earth to save us from our sins.
